Introduction to Fire Strategies Course

Course Overview

This course is developed and delivered by VTSF Ltd for the IFSM. This one-day course provides an introduction to fire strategies, focusing on their purpose, components, and significance in the design and construction of buildings in the UK. The course will cover the essentials of what a fire strategy is, who is responsible for its development, and the importance of integrating fire safety measures early in the design and construction phases. The day will conclude with a practical group exercise where participants will review and discuss a basic fire strategy.

Course attendees will need to bring a laptop with them to use. A USB containing course resources will be provided on the day.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will:

  • Understand the fundamental concepts of a fire strategy and its components.
  • Recognise the importance of fire strategies in building design and occupant safety.
  • Identify the key stakeholders involved in developing and implementing fire strategies.
  • Appreciate the role of drawings and the build stage in the formation of an effective fire strategy.
  • Apply the knowledge gained by analysing and discussing a basic fire strategy in a group setting.
