Types Of Membership

Individuals

Student - SIFSM

Every person applying for the grade of Student shall satisfy Council that are studying full time or on an apprenticeship within the fields of fire safety or fire engineering.  

Any unsuccessful student applications will be required to re-apply at one of the three higher membership grades.

Technician - TIFSM

You have at least two years of training and experience in relevant fields of fire safety management/engineering, and academic or vocational achievements/qualifications or equivalents and have been regularly undertaking relevant CPD hours. 

Associate - AIFSM

For those that have at least three years experience in fire safety management, responsibility for fire safety / prevention advice or fire safety in either an advisory or enforcement role. 

They will have achieved relevant qualifications at the correct level (usually Level 3 in Fire Safety) or will have proven their competency through their involvement over a sustained period.

Member - MIFSM

For those that have at least five years experience in fire safety management / fire engineering.

They will have achieved relevant qualifications at the correct level (usually at least a Level 4 or diploma in Fire Safety) or will have proven their competency through their involvement over a sustained period.

Companies

Affiliate

This grade carries no post-nominal letters and is meant for businesses or companies wishing to be associated with the Institute. You will have the right to use the Institute’s Affiliate Member logo on your paperwork and marketing. We will also add your logo to the Affiliates page of the IFSM website and the grid at the bottom of the Home page. The organisation applying for Affiliate membership must have at least one person registered with an individual membership grade of the IFSM i.e. those described in the above sections.

To apply for Affiliate grade membership, login to your profile and scroll down to the Order Affiliate Membership section on the bottom left.

Fellowship

Fellow - FIFSM

This grade is only by election at an Annual General Meeting. Nominees for election will have regularly served and represented the Institute, making a significant contribution to its recognition and status.

Life Fellow - FIFSM (Life)

This is the highest grade of membership of the Institute and is by way of nomination only. Nominees for election will have served and represented the Institute at the highest level on many occasions over the years, making a significant contribution to the recognition of the Institute at both national and international level.

* Please note that designatory letters are only authorised to be used whilst you remain a fully paid up member of the IFSM.

Memberships renew annually on the anniversary of your membership approval. Your current membership expiry date will be visible on your profile page when logged into the website and you will receive a notification email when your membership renewal is due.
