Risk Assessment – Avoiding the Pitfalls

December 12, 2024 by Erika Rabaya

Successfully assess and manage health and safety risks in the workplace

Failing to adequately assess and control health and safety risks in the workplace is not only hazardous for your employees and reputation, but it could also land your business in financial hot water. In 2018/2019, the average health and safety fine rose to £150,000, the highest it’s ever been.

Many organisations struggle to create suitable and sufficient risk assessments, record significant findings and take action to reduce risk, as required by the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations.

Our one-day course, ‘Risk assessment – avoiding the pitfalls’, provides an up-to-date approach to developing an effective risk assessment process.

It considers how the courts have clarified concepts such as ‘reasonably foreseeable risk’, which risks need to be assessed in more detail, the importance of risk reduction and what to do when things go wrong.

Benefits
Get expert support on your risk assessment journey.
Hear real-life examples and up-to-date thinking on issues associated with assessing risk.
If you are an IOSH member, this course is worth 5.5 hours to add to your CPD record.

Learning outcomes
Learn how to analyse risks and evaluate which are significant.
Apply a simple set of rules to create an effective risk assessment system.
Understand how to better manage risks.

Who should attend?
Health and safety professionals and anyone involved in the creation, maintenance or development of risk management systems, as well as anyone who carries out risk assessments and can influence the process.
