Phil began his career within fire safety in 2008, as a fire extinguisher technician for a small family business. Keen to progress within the industry, Phil trained to become a certified fire risk assessor and began carrying out fire risk assessments in simple commercial premises.In order to gain valuable experience, Phil joined Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service in 2015 as a retained firefighter alongside his primary role as a fire risk assessor. Following the Grenfell disaster in 2017, Phil felt the need to improve his fire safety knowledge and trained to become a certified fire manager, covering fire risk assessment of complex premises and the management of fire safety.During the 2020 Covid-19 outbreak, Phil accepted a wholetime role with Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service as a fire safety inspector and began completing fire safety audits in line with The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. In 2021, Phil went on to complete his level 4 diploma in fire safety (fire inspectors) at The Fire Service College in Moreton-in-Marsh and over the following 2 years, began enforcing fire safety legislation across the county of Suffolk.Following changes to legislation in 2023, Phil decided to make the step back into the private sector and accepted a role as a senior fire safety consultant, completing fire risk assessments, retrospective fire strategies, fire door inspections and monitored fire evacuation drills across both commercial and residential settings.Phil has also performed the role of fire safety validator. As a fire safety validator, Phil was able to continue to provide the services of a consultant, whilst monitoring the quality of work delivered by other consultants under the BAFE SP205 Life Safety Risk Assessment Scheme.Phil is a Member of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM), a tier 3 fire risk assessor on the IFSM Tiered Fire Risk Assessors Register (TFRAR) and an approved validator with the National Security Inspectorate (NSI). He has extensive knowledge of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and fire safety requirements under The Building Regulations 2010, as well as all article 50 guidance documents and relevant codes of practice.
