SUMMARY:Webinar - Energy Modelling and Data Analytics for Net-Zero Retrofit
DESCRIPTION:Energy Modelling and Data Analytics for Net-Zero Retrofit\nWith 80% of the 2050 building stock already standing\, global retrofit rates need to accelerate rapidly to ensure that net-zero carbon targets remain within reach. However\, given the complex nature of buildings\, how can building owners\, operators and AEC practitioners make informed decisions to ensure that strategies deliver in terms of energy\, carbon\, comfort and cost? \nJoin our experts for this consulting-led session\, exploring how cutting-edge energy modelling\, dynamic design tools\, and data analytics can streamline decision-making and reduce risk for retrofit projects. \nUsing real-world case studies\, we’ll showcase the latest digital techniques to enhance the performance of existing buildings\, guiding you through our step-by-step process – from initial optimisation to dynamic modelling of light and deep retrofit solutions\, right through to ongoing post-retrofit monitoring and verification. \nThis session will equip attendees with actionable insights and innovative approaches to deliver high-performance retrofits that stand the test of time. Plus\, our live Q&A will give you the chance to ask your most pressing retrofit questions directly to the experts. \nThis session will also mark the launch of a brand-new report from IES\, exploring the role of dynamic simulation and digital tools in supporting effective retrofit strategies. Attendees will be among the first to access this latest insight\, so sign up now to secure your place! \nSpeakers: \n\nRuth Kerrigan\, Chief Operating Officer\, IES (Chair)\nJason McGuire\, Senior Project Consultant – Energy Services\, IES\nMichael Pollock\, Senior Consultancy Manager – HVAC Modelling\, IES\nValeria Ferrando\, Associate Director – Digital Twin Consultancy\, IES\n\nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Lorient - The Importance of Fire Doors & Intumescent Seals
DESCRIPTION:Fire doors and intumescent seals are critical components in fire safety\, designed to prevent the spread of fire and smoke\, saving lives and protecting property. This CPD explores their essential role in passive fire protection. \n\nThe CPD Covers: \n\nHard facts concerning deaths\, injuries and property damage caused by fire and smoke\nFire testing in the UK and the applicable fire and smoke leakage standards\nHow ironmongery affects fire doors and the vital role of intumescent protection\nUnderstanding intumescent seals for doors and the importance of third party certification\nPractical product solutions\n\nAttending this seminar will award you with 1-hour’s Continual Professional Development (CPD).

SUMMARY:Grenfell's Legacy Reflect & Progress Conference (Online)
DESCRIPTION:Safety and quality\, or rather the failure of safety and quality\, is the most important issue facing the construction industry today. Several years on from the tragic events at Grenfell Tower\, there have been many considerable developments in building safety legislation at both the UK and Scottish government levels. \nWe have put together this conference to discuss building and fire safety developments across the sector. Beginning with a keynote presentation from CIOB Past President Paul Nash on building safety legislation\, the event will cover building safety developments from several perspectives. A series of expert speakers will discuss policy development on cladding remediation in Scotland\, new modern methods of fire safety\, early detection of defects\, technology solutions and construction law. \nOur speakers will be: \n\nPaul Nash\, CIOB Past President: Paul is Chair of the CIOB’s Quality Implementation Group and in 2017 he chaired the working group on procurement as part of the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety led by Dame Judith Hackitt.\nEddie Tuttle\, CIOB Director of Policy\, Research & Public Affairs: Eddie is co-chair of the CIOB’s Quality Implementation Group and leads on the interaction with UK Government for CIOB’s response to both Grenfell and the implementation of building safety legislation in the UK.\n\n\nJocelyne Fleming\, CIOB Policy & Public Affairs Officer – Scotland: Leading on the CIOB’s policy and public affairs work in Scotland\, Jocelyne will provide an update on the CIOB’s engagement on the Housing (Cladding Remediation) (Scotland) Act\, Single Building Assessments\, what is on the horizon for Scotland’s cladding remediation programme and wider building safety policies.\n\n\nRory Buckingham\, ASSA Abloy: The ASSA Abloy team will discuss electrically controlled fire and escape doors which are designed to provide protection from fire and limit the spread of flames.\n\n\nPaul McLaughlin & Alan Bryant\, Multivista: Multivista uses cutting-edge visual technology to revolutionize how projects are managed before\, during and after construction. Multivista provide this pioneering product and are a global provider of information technology solutions. Multivista will allow you to see behind walls\, ceilings and even slabs to avoid any unforeseen cost and will demonstrate this in their presentation.\n\n\nAlasdair Perry – British Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association and a member of the Industry Competence Committee and will discuss the impact of the Grenfell Phase 2 report on the fire suppression industry and why competence in the industry is so important to BAFSA.\n\n\nKatherine Dorran – Construction Law – DWF LLP: Katherine will give a lawyer’s perspective and reflect on the developments. There will be an introduction on construction with a quick walk through on parties in construction projects\, legislations relevant to construction projects\, and construction documents.\n\nMembers: gain 3 CIOB CPD points when you reflect on the ethical aspects of your learning from this activity. \nPlease note that this event is also being held in person in Dundee\, Scotland. If you would like to attend in person then please use this link instead to book your place. \nContact\nWilma Marshall \nMember Services and Events Coordinator – Central \nwmarshall@ciob.org.uk
