SUMMARY:FSF Product Assurance Online Workshop
DESCRIPTION:ARE WE READY TO IMPLEMENT CHAPTER 7?\nFurther last February’s successful first workshop on taking forward the Building a Safer Future report’s recommendations to ensure the correct construction products are used in critical safety situations a second product assurance workshop is being held. \nIn the first workshop Dame Judith’s report recommendations to sustain the golden thread\, by looking at issues around more transparent testing regimes\, the role of the manufacture in providing technical support and industry’s compliance with regard to installation and conformity\, were all considered. \nOur attention now turns to those parts of the product cycle relating to Selection and Specification and Traceability through collaborative labelling. Introducing these crucial topic areas are Richard Harral\, Technical Director\, Chartered Association of Building Engineers\, and Peter Capelhorn\, CEO\, Construction Products Association. The chair will again be taken by Chris Miles\, Business Director\, UL\, who leads the Federation’s Product Assurance Group. \nThis workshop will conclude the Federation’s look at the whole product cycle – from design\, testing and manufacture through specification\, application and installation – which aimed to examine the effectiveness of the regime and the overall integrity of securing product safety. \nDiscussion will search for weaknesses and improvements to help the Federation identify its priorities for developing future actions around construction products. After each speaker there will the opportunity to ask questions\, offer comment and suggest action that members might consider should be part of a new Federation policy. \nPlease join us\, add your voice and help form our view\, by advising Dennis Davis at executive@firesectorfederation.co.uk \n  \nZoom Details: \nMeeting Link \nMeeting ID: 875 3116 7125 \nPasscode: 436411

SUMMARY:FSEU Digital Roundtable - Energy-efficient & fire safe renovations under the EU Green Deal
DESCRIPTION:Ms Miapetra Kumpula-Natri MEP (S&D\, Finland) is delighted to invite you to the Roundtable she is hosting on “Energy-efficient & fire safe renovations under the EU Green Deal: opportunities for cities\, countries\, and Europe as a whole”\, which is co-organised by Fire Safe Europe. It will take place online on 23 March 2021\, from 11:30 to 13:00 CET. \nThe programme: \n\n\n11:30 -11:40 – Opening speech by Ms Miapetra Kumpula-Natri MEP;\n11:40 – 11:55 – Energy Efficiency initiatives in the EU and the opportunities to improve fire safety by Mr Goldstein (Policy Assistant at DG ENER – responsible for the Energy Performance of Buildings and Renovation Wave follow-up);\n11:55 – 12:10 – Examples of energy-efficient and fire-safe renovations at Member States level by Ms Irena Križ Šelendić (Ministry of Construction and Physical Planning\, Croatia);\n12:10 – 12:25 – Energy efficiency improvements at the local level and opportunities for holistic renovations by Dr Stephen Richardson (Director of World Green Building Council Europe);\n12:25 – 12:40 – The importance and benefits of energy-efficient and fire safe renovations by Ms Amaya Osacar (Chair of the Sustainable Buildings Advisory Panel of the European Fire Safety Community);\n12:40 -12:55 – Q&A session;\n\n\n12:55– 13:00 – Closing by FSEU moderator. \nWhy is this discussion important?\nTo increase the EU Building Stock’s energy-efficiency\, to fight energy-poverty and future-proof European buildings\, the European Commission has launched a number of initiatives\, in particular the revisions of the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED)\, the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). To capitalise on future investments and fully take advantages of these initiatives\, we need to adopt a holistic approach to energy-efficiency and encourage deep renovations that enhance both energy-efficiency and fire-safety. This is vital to ensure people’s well-being and safety. \nWhy does fire safety matter for energy-efficiency? Increasing energy-efficiency sometimes means introducing new technologies\, materials or systems in a building. These present sensible benefits for building greener and to achieve a more sustainable future. Nonetheless\, to take full advantage of these solutions\, we must harness them in a fire-safe way. It is important that efforts to maximise energy-efficiency do no impact a building’s fire-performance negatively. In 2018\, the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive ensured promising improvements in EU regulation by including two articles encouraging the EU Member States to consider fire safety in buildings undergoing major renovations as well as in their long-term renovation strategies. Amid the EU Green Deal\, we need to go even further.

SUMMARY:[Webinar] - Protecting High-rise residential buildings from fire
DESCRIPTION:For buildings with flammable cladding\, the NFCC (National Fire Chiefs Council) recommends a change in evacuation strategy\, supported by the introduction of temporary protection measures\, such as ‘Waking Watch’ or a fire detection system\, until the cladding is removed. If the remedial works are expected to take longer than 12 months\, the NFCC strongly recommends the installation of fire alarm system as a more reliable\, safe and cost effective solution to a Waking Watch. \nIn this webinar\, we will be exploring the Apollo & Advanced solution which provides superior protection for residents\, is fully compliant with NFCC guidance and offers fast installation with minimal disruption for occupants. We will also discuss how this system can be later adapted to convert to the Evacuation and Alert system in line with BS8629 code of practice. \nTall buildings expert Russ Timpson will also discuss what information you should provide to firefighters when they are responding to a fire in a high risk residential building (HRRB)\, and the fire growth and smoke movement requires a change of the existing/established evacuation strategy\, i.e. stay put to simultaneous \nYou will recieve 1 CPD Hour for attending. \nClick here to register >> \n  \nAll webinars are CPD Accredited by The Institute of Fire Safety Managers. \nFollowing the webinar you will be directed to a page where you will be able to download your CPD Certificate
