SUMMARY:Fire Safety in External Wall Cladding Systems Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Start and Finish Time – 1000hrs to 1600hrs \nSynopsis \nAnalysing external wall cladding systems can be a daunting task\, but with the understanding and application of correct fire safety principles and site installation techniques\, much of this can be easily resolved. \nIn order to comprehend where things may typically go wrong with facades (in terms of fire safety)\, it is essential to understand how a standard system is put together. The fire stage of the workshop aims to detail popular materials and systems frequently seen incorporated within external wall systems. This will be followed by understanding the BS and EN fire performance rating of materials and how they fit the requirements put forward within the revised building regulations – Approved Document B. \nThe workshop will also include a session on fire testing of materials\, mechanisms of external fire spread\, and\, more importantly – what to look for when undertaking intrusive external wall inspections and how that information may be assessed (especially given that The Fire Safety Act 2021 requires for the fire performance of exterior walls and cladding to be a material consideration of the fire risk assessment). The day will include extensive use of illustrative material and case studies. \nLearning Objectives  \n\n\nGain an understanding of modern external wall cladding systems widely used across buildings.\nBS/EN Fire performance rating and testing of external wall materials.\nMechanisms of external wall fire spread via openings and cavities of external wall systems.\nStatutory guidance contained within Approved Document B relating to external walls.\nWhat to look for when undertaking an external wall inspection and how to assess it.\nCase studies and worked examples of external wall inspections illustrating materials that have not been installed correctly on site.

SUMMARY:Webinar - Facade & Fire Safety in the EU: What's New?
DESCRIPTION:August 30th\, 2021\, the blaze started in a 20-storey residential tower block in Milan. Seventy families lived there\, all of them survived thanks to the quick reaction of firefighters. The fire consumed the entire facade of the building. Four years after the Grenfell incident\, another tower in the EU ignited\, hopefully with no death this time. But the question remains the same: how did this happen? Should we blame the lack of regulations? \nWhere are we in terms of Facade and Fire Safety in Europe? What’s new?\nYour Community’s managers are thrilled to invite you to the last webinar of 2021: Facade & Fire Safety in the EU: What’s new? Save December 9th on your agenda! Join us from 12:00-13:00 (CET) \nIt will tackle the development of a new European approach to assess facade’s fire performance\, and then focus on the recent revision of the Italian fire safety regulation for facades and roofs. \nRegister here – European Fire Safety Community | Login (eufiresafety.community) \nIf you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us at hello@eufiresafety.community

SUMMARY:Webinar - How can we tackle the shifting challenges of complex systems?
DESCRIPTION:One of our members\, Lucy Cowell (Herts F&RS) has sent me this information on a fire engineering CPD free event coming up soon. It is only an hour long but could be worthwhile and is chaired by Dame Judith Hackitt. \n“The second in the series of technical briefings will see Professor Roger Kemp MBE FREng\, Professor Emeritus at Lancaster University\, and Danielle Antonellis\, Founder and Executive Director at Kindling\, talk about the challenges of ensuring the safety and resilience of complex systems and introduce how the Safer Complex Systems mission is addressing the problem. The event will be chaired by Dame Judith Hackitt DBE FREng\, Chair of Make UK.” \nLink to register for the briefing below\, which will be held on Zoom: \nhttps://www.raeng.org.uk/events/events-programme/2021/july/technical-briefing  \nThank you to our member Lucy for sending this through to us. \nIf you have any questions about the event\, please contact the organisers directly. \nKind regards\, \nBob Docherty\nChairman Technical Subgroup

SUMMARY:FSF Product Assurance Online Workshop
DESCRIPTION:ARE WE READY TO IMPLEMENT CHAPTER 7?\nFurther last February’s successful first workshop on taking forward the Building a Safer Future report’s recommendations to ensure the correct construction products are used in critical safety situations a second product assurance workshop is being held. \nIn the first workshop Dame Judith’s report recommendations to sustain the golden thread\, by looking at issues around more transparent testing regimes\, the role of the manufacture in providing technical support and industry’s compliance with regard to installation and conformity\, were all considered. \nOur attention now turns to those parts of the product cycle relating to Selection and Specification and Traceability through collaborative labelling. Introducing these crucial topic areas are Richard Harral\, Technical Director\, Chartered Association of Building Engineers\, and Peter Capelhorn\, CEO\, Construction Products Association. The chair will again be taken by Chris Miles\, Business Director\, UL\, who leads the Federation’s Product Assurance Group. \nThis workshop will conclude the Federation’s look at the whole product cycle – from design\, testing and manufacture through specification\, application and installation – which aimed to examine the effectiveness of the regime and the overall integrity of securing product safety. \nDiscussion will search for weaknesses and improvements to help the Federation identify its priorities for developing future actions around construction products. After each speaker there will the opportunity to ask questions\, offer comment and suggest action that members might consider should be part of a new Federation policy. \nPlease join us\, add your voice and help form our view\, by advising Dennis Davis at executive@firesectorfederation.co.uk \n  \nZoom Details: \nMeeting Link \nMeeting ID: 875 3116 7125 \nPasscode: 436411
