Biography

I am a former UK Fire and Rescue Service senior manager with a Masters Degree in Enterprise Management, who has 25 years’ experience working within the UK Fire and Rescue Service, including experience of managing community fire safety and legislative fire safety performance. As an emergency services manager I gained the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety qualification in 2006 and later spent a number of years as the Health, Safety and Risk Information Manager for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service. Since retiring from the Fire and Rescue Service, I recently worked as a consultant for a health and Safety Consultancy specialising in providing health and safety and safeguarding advice to the education sector and small businesses across the north of England and southern Scotland. As well as providing general health and safety advice to clients, my role involved undertaking Access Audits for clients to support compliance with the Equality Act 2010, and also Fire Safety Risk Assessments for primary and secondary schools and low to medium risk commercial enterprises, to help clients comply with relevant Fire Safety legislation. In order to be able to competently complete Fire Risk Assessments for low to medium risk businesses, I gained the NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety in August 2023. I am now self employed as a Fire Safety Advisor and provide Fire Risk Assessments and Access Audits for clients across the south of Scotland and north of England.
