Phil Sidman spent 32 years in the British Fire Service 20 of which were within the fire safety discipline. Upon his retirement, Phil started his company Prevention 1st Fire Safety Services Ltd in order that he could provide the benefit of his experience in all aspects of fire safety to potential clients including the undertaking of fire risk assessments, and developing fire safety plans. Phil has undertaken a large number of fire risk assessments on all types of commercial properties and social housing projects. Phil has recently developed the initial fire risk assessments and developed fire plans for many of the Olympic sporting stadiums built for the London 2012 Olympic Games upon the completion of the construction phase of the buildings. Phil also specialises in construction fire safety having spent a number of years providing fire safety advice at both the building of Terminal 5 at Heathrow, The Olympic Park and Constructing the Eastern Running Tunnels as part of the Crossrail project and lately the construction of the new Nuclear Power Station at Hinkley Point. Phil is a corporate member of the Institute Of Fire Engineers, The Institute of Fire Safety Managers and The Institute of Fire Prevention Officers. He is also a Technician member of IOSH and was the first Fire Risk Assessor in the UK to demonstrate via independent assessment and certification of the FRACS Scheme, since its realignment to reflect the new standards, that he is competent according to the industry standard.
