I retired from the West Midlands Fire Service after 30 years in 2001 as an Assistant Divisional Officer, having served about two thirds of that time in operations and one third in fire safety in inspecting and supervisory roles.
Between 1991 and 1994 I was seconded to the Fire Service College as a tutor in the Fire Safety School. On my retirement from the fire Service in 2011, I returned to the Fire Service College where, for four years, I headed the College’s Fire Safety Consultancy section which carried out fire risk assessments in a wide variety of buildings. Whilst at the College, I taught a wide range of fire safety related subjects and was course leader for a number of courses including Foundation Fire Safety, Fire Safety Legislation and Fire Risk Assessment. I retired from the Fire Service College in April 2011.
I am currently carrying out fire risk assessments and delivering fire safety training for which I have formed a registered limited company trading as J.P.B. Pinney Ltd. I have been certificated as a competent fire risk assessor under the FRACS scheme by Warrington Certification (certificate No FRA30)
