Passey, Howard

While working for Ove Arup and Partners, Howard trained formally as a land surveyor, following which he spent eight years in the construction industry working for two main contractors progressing from a position of engineer to site manager.He joined the Fire Protection Association (FPA) in April 1992 as a Training/Information Officer. Currently holding the position of Director of Operations and Principal Consultant he supports all areas of the business but primarily responsible for the Fire & Risk Services function.Howard undertakes consultancy projects, including fire safety audits, fire strategy development and review, inspections, DSEAR assessments and fire risk assessments and advises clients on fire safety legislation and practice, particularly regarding building design and construction.He has a BEng (Hons) Fire Engineering degree from South Bank University, is a member of the Insurance Europe Practitioners Forum, and a member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) and a Fellow of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM).In March 2014 the FPA were awarded with the NSI Gold Award for registration to the BAFE SP205 scheme for companies who provide Life Safety Fire Risk Assessment Services and Howard approved as one of the FPAs validators under this scheme allowing for his registration as an assessor on the Institute of Fire Safety Managers' Tiered Fire Risk Assessors Register (TFRAR) at Tier 3.
